Moscow International Book Fair (MIBF)
The Moscow International Book Fair held at the beginning of September is now the largest and most representative book forum in Russia. For those in the Russian book business, the annual MIBF has been the most significant date in their calendar since its inception in 1977 – it brings them together to develop new contacts and maintain old ones, to buy and sell books and publication rights, and to get a sense of the way the industry is heading. This is the ideal place to get your foot in the door of the Russian book market.
MIBF attracts more than 2500 participating organisations: publishers, distributers, libraries, universities and cultural centres from more than 80 different countries. The exhibition is held across six pavilions—over 33 500 square metres— at the All-Russian Exhibition Centre.
At the MIBF in 2010 Academia Rossica, with support from the Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communication and the Moscow International Book Fair, organized the International Lounge — a space dedicated to communication and co-operation between Russian and foreign publishing professionals. Alongside the extensive programme of the Know How seminar series and roundtables focused on the preparation for the Russia Market Focus at the London Book Fair 2011, the International Lounge was also a place for negotiations and business communication, as well as acting as an information centre for international networking.
The International Lounge programme is designed to give you the opportunity to become better acquainted with the Russian book market, establish the necessary contacts, find partners, help develop collaborative projects with Russian publishers, and meet leading Russian authors. You will also be able to take advantage of numerous initiatives such as translation grants and travel grants, amongst others.
The Lounge includes a theatre with 2 x 3m plasma screen where you can present your project, a conference room for roundtables and workshops, exhibition stands where you can display your material and the Rights Centre where you can hire a table for meetings. The majority of events will be translated into English. A private translator can also be hired.
