Biography
Andrey Rodionov is one of the most remarkable figures in contemporary Russian poetry, art, music and theatre. His career began in 2000 in Moscow as a performer on poetry slams, and in 2002 he was awarded the Russian Slam prize. He continues to be a leading figure in the development of the Russian slam poetry movement: in December 2010, as a curator of the SlovoNova poetry festival, he organised the first national Russian slam final in Perm.
It is impossible to pin down Andrei Rodionov: having become famous as a slam poet, he continues to be the leading figure in developing the slam poetry movement all over Russia. In December 2010 Rodionov, as one of the curators of the SlovoNova poetry festival, organised the first national Russian slam final in Perm, attracting the involvement of winners from competitions in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Perm, Ekaterinburg, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Novosibirsk and other towns. Andrei Rodionov is also heavily involved in his electronic project Christmas Decorations and the punk group Okraina. Rodionov is also interested in video-poetry, which, thanks to his efforts, has become one of the most fashionable trends in Russian poetry.
On top of all this, Andrei Rodionov, appears in films, writes for the theatre and has his own one man shows. In recent years Rodionov has published a series of books, including Toys for the Outskirts (2007). Rodionov’s latest book New Drama comes with beautiful illustrations by the famous comics artist Khikhus.
